The last crown prince, or Tsarevich, of Imperial Russia. The first and only son of Tsar Nicholas II, Alexei Nikolaevich Romanov was born in August of 1904. He was 13 at the time of the massacre of the imperial family in 1918 and as he suffered from haemophilia, possibilities of his survival were slim indeed, although rumours continued to circulate. He ranked above his older sisters in terms of royal succession as he was a boy.
