Bartholomew was one of Jesus' 12 apostles. He was known by two names: "Bartholomew" (meaning "Son of Tolmai") and "Nathanael" (meaning"God Has Given") (Matthew10:3; Luke 6:14; John 1:45, 46). He was from Cana of Galilee. (John 21:2) and learned about Jesus from his friend, Philip. When Jesus, saw him he said: "See, an Israelite for a certainty, in whom there is no deceit." showing he must have been a very special person to be referred to by Jesus that way. As one of the twelve, he was with Jesus throughout his ministry, as he trained for the preaching work (Matthew 11:1; 19:25-28; 20:17-19, 24-28; Mark 4:10; 11:11; John 6:48-67) and faithfully adhered to Christ's teachings after Jesus' death(John 21:1-23) (Acts 1:13, 14; 2:42).
One of Jesus' 12 apostles, generally thought to be Nathanael. The apostle John uses his given name Nathanael, whereas Matthew, Mark, and Luke call him Bartholomew. When doing so they associate Philip and Bartholomew together, in the same way that John links Philip with Nathanael. (Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:14; John 1:45, 46)
