Great debate over that term just now, in sewing circles. However the gamut runs from seamstress, dressmaker, sewer and sewist. Many people have settled on 'sewist' as their title, even though it's not a proper word. 'Sewer' has too much affiliation with plumbing. I, myself, like Dressmaker. It's what I do, and describes it perfectly. Tailor is another word, but that is entirely a different kind of sewing.
