Putatively, a Greek Poet named Homer is believed to have written (and is credited with writing) the Iliad and The Odyssey. Note, though, that nearly every edition in English has a different translator which may render the text differently.

Homer is the famous poet who wrote some of the earliest Greek writings, including the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. These poems are considered foundational works in Western literature.
