Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) was a famous French novelist of the nineteenth century. He was best known for his novel Madame Bovary. Known as the Hermit of Croisset, his literary realism, perfected form, innovative narration, and brilliant style were virtually unknown by all but a few other authors during his time.
