ANSWER:
John:1:40: One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
Matthew:4:18-20: And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
Matthew:10:2: Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother.
Answer In Matthew's Gospel and Mark's Gospel, Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee when he called the brothers, Simon Peter and Andrew. They were the first disciples.
In Luke's Gospel, Peter seems to have been the first disciple.
In John's Gospel Andrew, and another of the disciples of John the Baptist were the first disciples of Jesus. Peter was the third.
Answer
The four Gospels each list the disciples in a different order. The ONLY ONE that occupies the same place in that order is PETER (also called Simon and Simon Peter). Yes Andrew went and found Peter and brought him to Jesus but it was not a situation of first in line gets to be it. Jesus told Peter "Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation a stone". Jesus chose Peter as his first disciple.
Matthew 10:2-4 "2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
4Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot."
In the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, Jesus saw Simon Peter and Andrew mending or casting their nets by Lake Galilee, and they became his first followers. In Luke's Gospel (4:38), Jesus entered into Simon's house and cured Simon's mother, so Simon Peter must have also been an early follower.
In John's Gospel, Andrew and another, unnamed disciple of John the Baptist followed Jesus, becoming his first two followers. Andrew then went and called his brother, Simon, who became the third follower of Jesus.
In Matthew's Gospel and Mark's Gospel, Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee when he called the brothers, Simon and Andrew. So Simon and Andrew were both the first disciples.
In Luke's Gospel, Jesus met Simon Peter in a house in Capernaum, where he healed Peter's mother-in-law, and again on a fishing boat, but does not seem to have called him. In Luke chapter 6, Jesus was on a mountain when he called twelve of the disciples who were with him, to be his apostles. In this case, Peter was arguably the first disciple.
In John's Gospel (1:35-40), Jesus had returned to the place of his baptism, traditionally by the River Jordan, when John the Baptist pointed him out to two of his disciples, one of whom was Andrew. The disciples followed Jesus and later (1:41-42) Andrew called his brother, Peter, to follow Jesus. Undoubtedly, Andrew and the other, unnamed disciple were Jesus' first disciples.
In the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke), Peter was the first disciple of Jesus Christ. In John's Gospel, Andrew and another, unnamed disciple followed Jesus before Peter.
The first disciple that Jesus chose was Peter and Andrew.
Simon and Andrew are, according to Matthew, the first two Apostles to be appointed, and Matthew identifies them as fishermen. See link "Twelve Apostles; Wikipedia on left..
