Considering that the books of The Bible [including Luke's gospel] will be "opened" on the Last Great Day of God's plan, to JUDGE [take measure of the works, deeds, and actions of] ALL OF MANKIND [see John 12:48 & Dan.7:10 & Rev.20:12]... in essence and ultimately, Jesus is talking to EVERYONE!

For the sake of this present "dispensation of time,"however, Jesus is now talking to any and all who are able to hear the Words He says. Because verse 39 says He is "speaking a PARABLE" the design of which is TO HIDE THE MEANING FROM THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

"His disciples came and asked Him, 'Why do you always tell stories WHEN YOU TALK TO THE PEOPLE?'

Then He explained to them, 'You have been PERMITTED TO UNDERSTAND the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but OTHERS HAVE NOT. To those who are OPEN TO MY TEACHING, MORE UNDERSTANDING WILL BE GIVEN, and THEY WILL HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF KNOWLEDGE. But to those WHO ARE NOT LISTENING, even what they have will be taken away from them. THAT IS WHY I TELL THESE STORIES [parables], because people see what I do, but THEY DON'T REALLY SEE. They hear what I say, but THEY DON'T REALLY HEAR, and THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND...'" (Matt.13:10-13 NLT New Living Translation)

Until the "Last Great Day" of God's plan; Judgment Day, comes... the Words of the Bible [that has been preserved for us written as a 'parable'... not understood by the general public] can only be understood by those whose spirits God has "permitted" to be "opened" to Understanding His Truth [see John 17:17].

"He has showered His Kindness on us, along with ALL WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING. God's SECRET PLAN has now BEEN REVEALED TO US; it is a plan CENTERED ON CHRIST, designed long ago according to His Good Pleasure. And THIS IS HIS PLAN: At the RIGHT TIME [KJV: '...in the dispensation of the fullness of time...'] HE WILL BRING EVERYTHING TOGETHER UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF CHRIST - everything in heaven and on earth...

God's purpose was that WE WHO WERE THE FIRST [whom He is now calling out of the world] TO TRUST IN CHRIST should PRAISE OUR GLORIOUS GOD. And now you have heard the Truth... He has IDENTIFIED YOU AS HIS OWN BY GIVING YOU THE HOLY SPIRIT..." (Eph.1:8-13 NLT).

Jesus spoke "parables" to the masses so that THEY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND... but when He was alone, PRIVATELY, with His disciples, He would explain the parable to them. So, at the time He spoke the words -- NO ONE UNDERSTOOD WHAT HE WAS SAYING. Later, however, speaking privately with His disciples, they understood what He said.

And, ultimately, what Jesus said was RECORDED IN THE GOSPELS for you and I to read and understand... THROUGH STUDY OF THE SCRIPTURES:

"...For the hearts of the people are hardened [by Satan - see Rev.12:9], and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes - so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to Me and let Me heal them." (Matt.13:15 NLT)

"But BLESSED ARE YOUR EYES, because THEY SEE; and YOUR EARS, because THEY HEAR... Now HERE IS THE EXPLANATION OF THE STORY [parable] I TOLD..." (verses 16-18).

For the present time, the entire Bible is written [as a parable; here a little, and there a little - Isa.28:10-13] for the generally hardened hearts of rebellious mankind... and for the "private" understanding of God's servants: those whom He's calling out of the world [sanctifying] and training for HIS HOLY USE and PURPOSE:

"...'I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest KEEP THEM FROM THE EVIL [one]. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. SANCTIFY THEM through THY TRUTH: THY WORD [the Bible] IS TRUTH." (John 17:15-17)

In Luke 6:39... and throughout the Bible, Jesus is talking to THE CHILDREN OF GOD... His special creation: MANKIND. Most men can't hear or understand what He's saying, yet. But in the Judgment, when Satan's deception is lifted from the hardened hearts of men; all will understand to whom He has always spoken... as well as the meaning of His Words:

"He that rejecteth Me, and receiveth not My Words, hath One that JUDGETH HIM: THE WORD THAT I HAVE SPOKEN, THE SAME SHALL JUDGE HIM IN THE LAST DAY." (John 12:48)
