Finally moved by Luke's imminent death, Vader saves Luke by throwing the Emperor into the reactor of the second Death Star. Vader is mortally wounded, and soon dies, but is freed from the control of the Dark Side. He is seen at movie's end, along with Yoda and Obi-Wan, as a spirit form of the Force.

∙ 12y agowell some people say Obi-wan Kenobi in episode 3 but since that is just at a certin point of view and Vader and anakin are the same person then it is hard to tell some say he did it himeself some say it was luke some say it was the emproro his death was confusing

What did Anakin do when the Jedi went to arrest Palpatine?
Palpatine kills all the Jedi except Mace Windu. Palpatine tries to strike Mace with Force Lightning but Mace deflects it back to Palpatine. Then, Mace nearly kills Palpatine but Anakin stops the death blow by slicing Mace's hand (which held his lightsaber). Doing this then allowed Palpatine to shoot Force Lightning to Mace, eventually throwing him out the window and presumably to his death. Anakin's action and allegiance to Palpatine/Darth Sidius completes his journey to the Dark Side.
