Otto Adolf Eichmann, more commonly called Adolf Eichmann, was a high ranking member of Nazi Germany's Schutzstaffel, or SS- the agency in charge of all of the regime's police and intelligence forces. He is famous for being one of the primary commanders in charge of carrying out the Holocaust, where millions of European Jews were systematically murdered by the Nazi regime for the "crime" of being Jewish.
After World War II ended, he was able to avoid capture and secretly fled to Argentina; in the early 1960s, agents working for the Israeli government were able to capture him, and brought him to Israel. There, he stood trial for his crimes, was convicted, and hanged on June 1, 1962.
