Who was Paul Revere protecting?

He really wasn't protecting. He was sent to warn Adams and others that the British were on the march and to hide the arms they had collected. He never got there and was arrested about half-way through his ride. Two men by the names of Preston and Dawes actually got to Concord. A hundred years later Longfellow wrote his poem the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" and made him famous for something he didn't do. "Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere."
