In Greek mythology, Prometheus felt sorry for mankind, since they were cold and had no fur to keep them warm. So against Zeus' orders, Prometheus stole Fire from the Gods for man. For this he was punished by Zeus. Prometheus was enchained on a mountain where an eagle, a vulture came daily to eat him alive. His liver would be eaten out each day. After the day's suffering his body would restore during the night. This was to happen eternally. But after a while Zeus repented and released him. Prometheus is considered the protector of mankind. He was a Titan who reigned even before the Gods were formed.
