Taddy Roosevelt was the son of James (Rosy) Roosevelt, who was the first son of James Roosevelt, the father (by his second marriage to Sara Delano) of Franklin Roosevelt. Taddy attended Harvard briefly, but left school to marry and never returned. Taddy and his wife remained married throughout their lives. He did not rely on his inherited money and bequeathed it all to the Salvation Army when he died.
Franklin Roosevelt was Taddy's uncle, though he was actually younger than Taddy. Franklin blamed Taddy for causing Franklin's father's death by heart attack, which occurred shortly after Taddy declared his intention to marry a woman deemed to be unworthy of his station in life. Franklin ostracized Taddy in the Roosevelt extended family and never relented from his position.
