Emily Dickinson came from a prominent family in a quiet village called Amherst in Massachusetts. Her father was a leading lawyer of the village, and later, a treasurer of Amherst college along with other things. I'm sure they had a plentiful amount of money, considering Emilys' fathers status and career. Emily and her brother and sister went to very good schools and they lived in a nice house as well. Mr. Dickinson also hired someone to clean and maintain the house at one point, so they obviously had a good amount of wealth. I would not say however that Emily Dickinson and her family were rich but well off. Maybe upper middle class.
