The hippies were members of a counterculture movement, originally a youth movement, that started in the United States and quickly spread to be global. It was multifaceted, and included a large number of people whose values differed widely. In general, it was into psychedelic rock, flowers and nature, peace activism, the sexual revolution, and consciousness altering drugs. The movement is still around, though somewhat modified, today.
