Lake Norman was made to provide power to the Piedmont region of North Carolina. It was created in 1963 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Power. There is a Lake Norman in North Carolina, a few miles North of Charlotte.

i think it was the lake that was named after the tribe... the Algonquins You are probably thinking of the Hurons this is a tribe that resides in Canada as well as in the USA. they are named for Lake Huron one of the Great Lakes.
