Slobodan Milosevic was the President of Yugoslavia and Federal Serbia. Milosevic was known as a totalitarian leader, exercising strict control over speech and restricting civil rights within Serbia. He was accused of contributing to the Yugoslavian wars of the 1990s, specifically against Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Slovenia. He was also accused of engaging in ethnic cleansing against Croats and Bosnians. He was arrested and held by the International Criminal Court. While being tried for war crimes, Milosevic died under mysterious circumstances.
