He did not. Governor Faubus used the Arkansas National Guard to resist the racial integration of Arkansas schools. President Eisenhower used the 101st Airborne Division to enforce the racial integration of Arkansas schools. The schools were integrated, and they did not fight, but if they had the smart money would have been on the One-Oh-One.

After the ruling on the case Brown vs The Board of Education segregation in schools was illegal. Some states such as Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama tried many different tactics to keep integration from happening.
Governor Almond, on the heels of Brown vs. Board of Education, ordered that the schools in Virginia that were subject to integration be closed. The schools in Warren County, Charlottesville and Norfolk all were closed for parts of the 1958 school year.
