In the Old Testament, people believed that following God's laws and commandments, offering sacrifices, and showing faith in God were ways to ensure a place in heaven. Saint Sarah, also known as Sara-la-Kali, is honored as a saint by some Romani and travelers due to a belief that she helped the biblical Mary Magdalene escape persecution by providing her with refuge in France. This devotion has evolved into a pilgrimage tradition where people visit her shrine in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in France. However, her status as a saint is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.
