The Ax Man of New Orleans is the name given to an unknown killer that terrorized the city of New Orleans, LA from 1911 unto the last in 1919.
The first murders in 1911 claimed four victims, Italian grocer Tony Schiambras, his wife and two other grocers. Then no more murders until May 23, 1918, when another two people, running a grocery were attacked. Joseph Maggio and his wife were attacked while they slept. Their heads split with an ax and then their throats slit after. The brothers of the dead man were accused but then released.
Then on June 28 Louis Besumer, another grocer, and his commonlaw wife were attacted with a hatchet. She lived and he was charged with the crime. But that same night Mrs. Scheider, pregnant, was attacked also. While she was recovering the Ax Man killed Joseph Ramano a barber who died on August 10.
On March 10, 1919 the Ax Man attacked a family named Cortimiglia. The man and woman lived but their baby died.
