Peter Hardeman Burnett (born November 15, 1807 in Nashville, Tennessee; died May 17, 1895 in San Francisco, California), the first Governor of California, served between December 20, 1849 and January 9, 1851, including the whole of 1850.
Bennet Riley, the US military governor, called a meeting along with forty-eight other delegates and wrote the California Constitution. Then, the US government ratified the constitution and California became the 31st state September 9th, 1850.
