Following the end of Cannon's term as Governor, James K. Polk (born November 2, 1795 in Pineville, North Carolina; died June 15, 1849 in Nashville, Tennessee) became the eleventh Governor of Tennessee, serving between October 14, 1839 and October 15, 1841.
