Bartolomeu Diaz is the first European known to have rounded the Cape of Good Hope.

When it was fist discovered by the Portuguese they believed that the Cape had a great deal of potential as a sea route for trade in India and so named it the Cape of Good Hope
It's called the Cape of Good Hope.
The Portuguese navigator who sailed around the Cape of Good Hope was Vasco da Gama. He completed this journey in 1497, becoming the first European to reach India by sea, thereby establishing a new maritime route to Asia. Da Gama's voyage was significant in the Age of Exploration, as it opened up trade opportunities and expanded Portuguese influence in the Indian Ocean.

He was a Portuguese explorer who discovered the "Cape Of Good Hope". But he originally named it the "Cape Of Storms", but it was renamed by John ll of Portugal. Dias never got through the "Cape Of Good Hope" though.
