The United States devised the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after World War II. This was ti prevent the spread of Soviet Communism.
The too soft hearted allies helped rebuild and feed the bombed out country following the war. That gave them a firm base on which to rebuild.

In 1952, the Secretary of Defense was George C. Marshall. He served in this role from September 1950 until January 1951, and then again briefly in 1952, following the resignation of Robert A. Lovett. Marshall was a prominent military leader and statesman, best known for his role in World War II and for the Marshall Plan, which helped rebuild Europe after the war.
