This address also belongs to the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang (秦始皇兵马俑åšç‰©é¦†), which was opened to the public in 1 October 1979. ∙ 8y agoThe Terracotta Army is a form of funerary art buried with the first Emperor of Qin (Shi Huang Di) in 210-209 BCE. It may have been believed that the army would help him rule another empire in the afterlife. Besides that, some people think that the army was also built for protection. Each full-size clay figure figure is different; there are about 8000 soldiers, non-military figures, 700 horses and chariots buried in the area. Local farmers found them in 1974.
Because of decorative rivers of Mercury flowing in the tomb, elevated atmospheric levels have limited the access of visitors and scholars to the tomb of Qin Shihuang.

Each figure was modelled after one of the elite soldiers who had been selected to guard the emperor's palace and provide protection when the emperor was out of the palace.
