I know that I think Magellan Died before his armada of conquest ships returned home. I am pretty sure though that it was Magellan It was Admiral Hwang Ho in 1422.
Firstly it was going to be lead by Álvaro de Bazán, the undefeated winner of Lepanto battle, but he died before the begining of the expedition. Instead of him, the King OS Spain sent Alonso Pérez de Guzman, a noble without any combat experience.
Well, King Phillip II was the one who launched the attack, but it was the Duke of Medina which ran the Armada. However, this caused some problems: the Duke of Medina didnt know anything about sailing and was even seasick a few times

Some weaknesses for the Spanish fleet were spanish gunner were not taught to reload cannons. Spanish navy not large enough to invade England. Leaders of Armada missed an oportunity to attack in Plymouth. Spanish Admiral was not a sailor and got very sea sick.
