The Declaration of Independence was chiefly authored by Thomas Jefferson and many distinguished statesmen contributed and many more reviewed it before being approved by the Continental Congress, i.e, a kind of provisional assembly on the 4th of July, 1776. This document of historical importance declared the separation of Thirteen American States from the British Empire which had been in war with them for over one year. This date became the United States of America's Independence Day.
