Tony Hayward was BP's most recently resigning CEO.

His public reasons for stepping down were that he had become demonized by the press, and the company would do better with him not in the limelight.

Other reasons for his stepping down would be:

  • Appease Americans by hiring an American to head up what was formerly a British company. (Formerly British Petroleum).
  • His lack of sensitivity towards the accident victims and those affected by the oil spill.
  • His continued media gaffs.
  • Pressure from stockholders.
