Bernard Law "Monty" Montgomery
Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, KG, GCB, DSO, 17 November 1887 - 24 March 1976), nicknamed "Monty" and the "Spartan General" was a British Army officer.
General Bernard Montgomery, commonly known as "Monty," was a British army officer who played a crucial role in World War II. He led the British Eighth Army in the North African campaign, earning a victory at the Battle of El Alamein in 1942. Montgomery later commanded the Allied ground forces during the D-Day invasion in 1944 and led the successful campaign to liberate Northwest Europe from German occupation.
Monty had many dogs during World War II, several of them at a time actually. A famous one was a puppy named "Rommel"Monty got shortly after the D-Day and which is immortalized on a picture with Winston Churchill.

Harold Alexander was Montgomery's boss, being commander in Chief Middle East.
The Supreme commander of ALL of the Allied forces during WWII, this included US and its ALLIES, was Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. But we must not forget all the other great Generals that served for Gen. Eisenhower. Among them Gen. George S. Patton (US), Gen. Douglas McCarthur (US), Gen. Montgomery-Monty (UK). Each of these men a long with other generals, led simultaneous offensives and operations that brought success to the allies.

In World War II, the British general known affectionately as "Monty" was in fact Bernard Law Montgomery. Achieving the rank of Field Marshal by the time the war ended, he was well-known as a successful, if also difficult, leader of British and Allied forces. After the war, he served as the Chief of the Imperial General Staff of the United Kingdom, among other lesser posts.
