Ada Augusta countess of Lovelace did not create anycomputer.

  1. Charles Babbage designed the Analytical Engine (a large slow mechanical computer), but never built it.
  2. An Italian mathematician wrote a paper about the machine.
  3. Ada translated the Italian paper to english, appending many notes and comments of her own. One of the notes is the only known complete program written for the machine. Thus she is commonly credited as the world's first computer programmer (although as the computer her program was written to run on was never built, she never physically programmed it).
