During the silent movie era, Jackie Coogan was the biggest child star. He began his career in 1919 in a Charlie Chaplin film. After him, came Shirley Temple who began her career in 1932 (at the age of 3.) As a small child, Shirley Temple was one of the highest paid actors at Fox Studios, a company she almost single-handedly saved during the depression.
