The Chinese invented the toy in about 1000 BC. Freely available on the trade routes, the device found it's way to the Phillipines where it was named yo-yo (come back) and used as a weapon in the 16th century. In the early 20th century, re-marketed as a toy, the YO-YO manufacturing company was formed in Santa Barbara CA by Phillipines buisnessman Pedro Flores.
Pedro Flores was the first inventor of the yo-yo. But then again, there can be many different answer. Hope I helped.
