Lewis Carrol, who worked the Humpty-Dumpty myth into his Alice in Wonderland and this role was played by W.C. Fields in the movie version, NOT the mad Hatter, it is intresting as Fields was noted for headgear including top hats!

Lewis Carroll is often credited with popularizing the image of Humpty Dumpty as an egg in his book "Through the Looking-Glass" published in 1872. However, the character of Humpty Dumpty predates Carroll's book, and the nursery rhyme itself doesn't specify that Humpty Dumpty is an egg.

∙ 9y ago- The rhyme was first printed in 1810 and became famous through Lewis Caroll's book, 'Alice Through the Looking Glass', where Humpty Dumpty is shown as a round egg. However, it is a very old rhyme and goes back much earlier than this.
