Stealth technology was invented about ten seconds after radar. There are several approaches to making a craft invisible to radar: 1) Absorbing the beam: This is what the microwave absorber patches on popcorn bags do to heat up their oil. But more sophisticated materials are layered on the vehicle's skins. It is even possible to etch "reflective-holograms of empty space" onto aluminum or stainless steel. Projected electron beams have been used but the technology is complicated. 2) Deflecting the beam: This was a Russian invention that the Lockheed Skunkworks people found and used to build stealth aircraft (F117). If reflecting surfaces don't allow the radar beam to return to the receiver...they can't detect the airplane. The airplanes look a little strange, but computers fly them well. 3) Passing the beam: Some materials just pass microwaves with little reflection or absorption. This is not practical for large structures.
