As Pluto is the last known planet, and is very , very far nobody has visited it as yet.
The New Horizons space probe was the first spacecraft to explore Pluto. The mission to the minor planet happened in 2015.

We do study Pluto. We have been studying it since 1930. In fact, On July 14, 2015, the New Horizons spacecraft flew 12,500 km (7,800 mi) above the surface of Pluto, making it the first spacecraft to explore the dwarf planet.On October 25, 2016, the last of the recorded data from the Pluto flyby was received from New Horizons.
Simply because it's too far away! Missions to explore space that were launched decades ago still haven't reached the edge of the known solar system yet (i.e. Pluto).

The satellite sent to explore Pluto was called Charon. Charon is not the satellite on the way to Pluto. Charon is a satellite (moon) of Pluto. The satellite currently on the way to explore Pluto is called New Horizons. It is expected to arrive July, 2015.
