The declaration of independence
William Samuel Johnson did not sign the Declaration of Independence. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress but chose not to sign the document in 1776. Later, he became a prominent figure in the early United States, serving as a member of the Constitutional Convention and as the first president of Columbia College (now Columbia University).
