This is a legend concerning Revere. He did begin the ride but was stopped by a British patrol and arrested, so he did not finish it. Instead a man named Dawes saw what was happening and went on to Concord. The idea about Revere came from an 1861 poem written by Longfellow to remind people of thier history before the Civil War.
His name was Paul Revere but what people don't know is that on his midnight ride he was not alone there were two other men with him Dr. Samuel Prescott and William Dawes, before they could cover the five miles to Concord they encountered a British roadblock manned by redcoats, determined to reach Concord they went around but Paul Revere and William Dawes were captured leaving Samuel Prescott to warn the people of Concord that the Redcoats were coming.
