Howdy Doody and His Magic Hat - 1954 is rated/received certificates of: USA:Approved USA:Passed (National Board of Review)
Howdy, or Howdy Doody, is a slang- arguably Western- as the tv show had residual cowpoke angles- Stetson hats, shirts with a Westland fling-if you will, it is an adaptation of the standard greeting- How Do You Do? like that Howdy Doody! The phrase may have been popularized by Will Rogers, Gene Autry or some other Media cowboy types or humorists. It was widely used by the late $l.98 hat famed Minnie Pearl (Howdy!)
I understand he was a child, ( in the story line) not a law enforcement officer. He had a western get-up- Stetson hat, for example, checked shirt- but no badge. He did not carry a gun, either, and as I understand it, toy firearms were never advertised on the Howdy Doody Time commercials. For some odd reason-maybe technical difficulties ( though they did have them in the comic book) Horses were conspicuous in their absence in Howdy Doody Land.-actually the town was called Doodyville.
