The term "key note speaker" was not in use at the time of the Civil War.
The primary speaking attraction at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg on 19 November 1963 was Edward Everett, who delivered a two-hour oration. Aside from prayers offered by two ministers, Lincoln and Everett were the only speakers. There was also music by two bands, a Hymn and a Dirge.
One of Abraham Lincoln's most famous speeches is his second inaugural address. Another was, of course, the Gettysburg Address. An earlier speech of note is his House Divided against itself cannot stand.
That so many of us would memorize his two minute speech and quote it often. ...use common sense.
In the Gettysburg Address he says, "the brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor powers to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.…" NEW RESPONDENT Lincoln did that mention during the Gettysburg Address, released on Nov. 19, 1863, at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, four and a half months after the Union Army defeated the Confederate Army at the Battle of Gettysburg
