William of Normandy, later known as William the Conqueror--
After their victory at the Battle of Hasting, the Normans continued their conquest of England. Their leader William (William the Conqueror) was crowned King of England two months later. His descendants have held the English thrown since then.
He was a great leader and led the 1066 Battle of Hastings for the Normans against Harold Godwinson of England. William was victorious and was crowned King of England. Maddie Kolaja :)
The Saxon leader was Harold Godwinson.
King Harold was defeated by William The Conqueror in 1066 at the Battle of Hastings. It is all depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry, from the time of Edward the Confessor, to Harold going to France to meet William - Duke of Normandy, then Harold succeeding Edward, Halley's Comet, to the invasion by William and the Battle of Hastings on 14 October, 1066.
It was the English King, Harold Godwinson, who was killed at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harald Hadrada was the Viking leader who was killed at the Battle of Stamford Bridge days earlier. The Saxons made the mistake of breaking their shield wall when they thought that the Normans were retreating. The mounted Normans turned round and slaughtered the Saxon warriors caught out in the open. Up until the shield wall broke, the battle could have gone either way.
The battle was fought between Normandy and England. The Norman ruler who engaged in the battle was William the Conqueror and the English king was King Harold II. King Harold II was killed and England lost this battle and Normandy took over rule in 1066, England begrudgingly accepted William as their king.
King Harold.

The Normans conquered England because their leader Duke William II had a claim to the English throne after the death of King Edward the Confessor, since Edward died childless. He defeated Edward's brother-in-law and heir Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 securing the throne.
