Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin was the second leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), also known as the Soviet Union and sometimes referred to, somewhat inaccurately, as "Russia". The USSR no longer exists as of 1991. Russia, the largest part of the former Soviet Union, is now a country.
The leader of Russia during the First World War was Czar Nicholas II. He was killed on July 17, 1918.
Vladimir Lenin was the leader of Russia from 1917 to 1922. He was a communist, and he turned Russia into the Soviet Union. Lenin was predecessor to Stalin.
At the fall of the Soviet Union the president of the Soviet Union was Mikhail Gorbachev. And the prime-minister of Russia was Boris Yeltsin.
STALIN
Lenin was not the first leader of Russia. He was the first leader of the Soviet Union when it was organized under the Treaty of the Soviet Union in late 1923 early 1924. Lenin was physically incapacitated by his strokes by then so he was not a true leader of government; however he is counted as the first leader of the new Soviet Union.
The Soviet leader was Nikita Khrushchev
Joesph Stalin was the premier of the soviet union from 1941 to 1952 which means he was leader for the duration of Russia's involvement in WW2.
