His Royal Highness Khalifa ibn Salman Al Khalifa was the Prime Minister of Bahrain in 2009. Khalifa became the first and thus far the only prime minister of Bahrain on 1971 December 16 when appointed by his brother, the Emir of Bahrain, Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. On 2009 October 21, he received the title of prince from Emir Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, son of the previous Emir, and Khalifa ibn Salman's nephew. He continues as prime minister to this day.
