How did segregation affect world war 1?

Segregation in WW1 limited blacks rights to serve in the infantry in the war. Blacks mainly drove trucks carrying supplies, were chef's, and some others but nothing major in the actual front lines. But not until the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) demanded that blacks be able to become officers and fight in the front lines. But even then, blacks rights would still be cut short even from WW1 to WW2. But many African-Americans fought along side of the French troops on the front lines. (Over 350,000 African-Americans)
