(Reserch paper) 9 May 2009 Anne Frank Hiding from the Nazis that one day would kill her, Anne Frank wrote in her famous diary, "It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart" (Jewish American 3). Anne Frank was the famous diarist whose story illustrates what life was like hiding from the Nazis. The Frank family immigrated to Holland Germany in 1933(Frank 3). Annelies Marie Frank was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany (Discovering Biography 1). Everyone called Annelies "Anne," and she had a older sister named Margot. Margot and Anne's parents were Otto and Edith Frank, Otto was thirty six and Edith was twenty five when first married (Frank 3). The Franks were a upper class Jewish Family and Anne Frank had a special interest in writing (Discovering Biography 1-2). On Anne's birthday she received a diary, camera obscura, party game, sweets, chocolates, a puzzle, brooch, two books and money that will go for another book (Frank 1). Anne's favorite present was a diary that was red and white checkered cloth hard back bound book (van der rol Ruud and Verhoeven 3). In Anne Frank's diary she addressed her letters to a person named kitty. Anne wrote, "I hope I shall be able to confide in you completely as I never been able to do in anyone before, and I hope that you will be a great support and comfort me "(Frank intro). She wrote about stuff like a normal young girl would write about like food and its preparation, hygiene, birthday parties and presents and education (Jewish American 380). The franks spent a lot of time doing activities like going to Zandvoort Ann Zee beach(van der Rol and Verhoeven 23), ping-pong and going to the ice cream shop named Delphi or a place called Oasis where the two frank girls really never bought ice cream where there friends provided them with plenty(Frank 5). After Hitler became in charge the Jews were ordered to wear the Star of David that said JEW. Hitler banned all Jews from trams, bikes, vehicles and all public sports including Swimming Pools, tennis courts, hockey fields, and all places of entertainment and only allowed Jews to shop between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at stores which must place a card that said Jews or no Jews allowed (Frank 4). Anne like to take pictures and then decorate her bedroom with her picture art work but no longer could she after Hitler banned all Jew's to take pictures, the only way Jews could have their picture token is to have a non Jewish person take the picture and give it to them (Van der Rol and Verhoeven 37). Awhile after Adolf Hitler became in charge he made all Jews go to separate schools no matter their grades or their family's reputation. Whenever Anne Frank joined the Jew school her grades dropped significantly and became well known for her pranks and her incessant talking (Discovering Biography 1). On July eighth 1942 Otto Frank received a letter from a concentration camp ordering Otto to go and the family went quickly into hiding the next day. When packing they put cloths upon cloths and each person got a bag together, luckily Otto Frank had been taking small quantities of the family's stuff to his work and storing it in the Secret Annex above his office where they would be shortly that day (Frank 13). The food was stored in the attack and on certain days Otto Franks' business partners would bring them food whenever everyone was on lunch break gone home and they would talk about things like the business and things that were going on in the world (Van der Rol and Verhoeven 50). While in hiding no one was allowed to use the faucet and they where not allowed to flush the toilet between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. through the business day's. First Anne shared a bedroom with Margot but then Fritz Pfeffer came into hiding with the Franks so then Margot moved into her parents room (Van der Rol and Verhoeven 50). Anne started too have puppy love with Peter Van Daan, Otto frank Anne's father did not approve of the relationship so he tolled Anne that she should not see him anymore but she continued too see him for quite sometime than the relationship died off(Jewish Americans 380). On August 4th 1944 the Franks became prisoners of the Nazi and sent into concentration camps only Anne and Margot went to the same concentration camp together. Anne Frank died of a Typhoid Fever in Bergen Germany of March 1945 just a few weeks before the concentration camp was shut down and the Jew's were free to leave, only Otto Frank survived. The Franks had been betrayed by Otto's business workers, while they were in hiding for more than two years they were lucky that they got to stick together because it was rare that families stuck together for the fear of being caught. Yet the Frank family had been betrayed they still had friends that were loyal to them and they gathered Anne's diary, pictures and some personal belongings to the family. Once Otto frank came back from the concentration camp in Hollen he was reunited with the family's stuff and Otto later got Anne's diary published. Anne Frank wrote fables, short stories, reminiscences, essays and her famous un-finished novel The Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary has been translated into over thirty languages, just in the United States alone over a million copies sold (Jewish American 380).
