Comic relief is often sprinkled throughout a story to provide moments of humor and light-heartedness, depending on the tone and genre of the work. The frequency of comic relief can vary, but it is typically used strategically to break up tension or add levity to heavy or dramatic scenes.

Comic Relief is typically celebrated through various fundraising events, such as telethons, comedy shows, and charity campaigns. I can only tell you that it is over half a billion pounds. I have contacted Comic Relief, and asked them to give me an exact figure, but haven't had a reply yet. When I do, I will post it here. Right, a lovely lady by the name of Suzanne has got back to me with the total amount raised by Comic Relief, it is a staggering £520,431,562, and that is without this years amount added to it.
It's called comic relief. Shakespeare almost always gave a bit for the comedian and it was always at a very dark part of the play, whether the comedian was a drunken porter, a gravedigger, or, as here, a foolish servant. It tended to relieve the tension a bit for a short while, making it easier to take the misery that follows. Othello has no comic relief and it is very difficult and dark.
There is no figure for 2012 - as the event only runs every two years - last time was in 2011 when they raised£108,436,277.
