At the time he died, he was in his room in the Hitler Bunker in Berlin, with his partner Eva Braun whom he had married shortly before.

Berlin was being overrun by Allied troops and he knew that they would capture him, so he had a simple dinner; then went into his room with Eva.

Investigation into the blood marks on the sofa shows that it is likely that Hitler shot Eva in the head, then killed himself in the same way while eating a cyanide pill. Thier bodies were then removed by the staff to the area outside the bunker and were cremated using petrol.

For many years after the war the Russians claimed to have parts of Hitlers skull and jaw bone showing the bullet hole. This has since been proved to be to be true through forensic examination.
