The name occurs more than once. There was a son of Menashe (Manasseh) named Yair (Numbers ch.32). This Yair was a grandson of Joseph and was apparently still living in the time of Moses.
A second Yair, in the time of the Judges, was a man from Gilead. He was a matrilineal descendant of Machir son of Menashe (1 Chronicles ch. 2); and he judged the Israelites for twenty-two years (Judges 10:3-5). He was among the judges who lived after Deborah and Gideon, and before Yiftach (Jephthah).
Another Yair, of the tribe of Benjamin, was the father of Mordecai (Esther 2:5). He lived at the time of the First Destruction.
