David Koresh, the leader of the Branch Davidians, did not personally kill anyone during the 1993 Waco siege; however, he was involved in the events leading up to the standoff and the violent confrontation with law enforcement. The siege resulted in the deaths of 76 Branch Davidians, including Koresh, as well as four ATF agents during the initial raid. The circumstances surrounding the siege and the actions taken by both the Branch Davidians and law enforcement remain highly controversial and debated.
The question at hand is one that is not important. The Branch Davidians had apocalyptic expectations of a fiery end. The "bugs" placed by the FBI in the compound had evidence that a "fuel" was spread by the Davidians. Hay had been stacked up inside as a bullet block. These people, as much as they used firearms, knew hay would not stop a bullet. The hay was set to have the fire, Koresh preached about, spread more rapidly. Whether an explosion from the tear gas canister or an ignition from a Branch Davidian caused the fire is not important. The Branch Davidians had ample time to come out, surrender, and give up. They stayed and waited for the apocalypse in which Koresh taught. Either way, The Branch Davidians got what they had been looking for in their pursuit for salvation.
