The first people to live in Hawaii were the Polynesian settlers from Marquesas. Archaeological shows that they were there as early as 300 CE. There was a second wave of migration in the 11th century which involved people from Raiatea and Bora Bora.
It is not known for certain who the first people were who came to live on these islands, but it is known for certain that when the first ancestors of the current common people of Hawai'i, the Kanaka Maoli (not the Ali'i, who came from Tahiti later, and dominated these people), there were already a different race of people here, the Menehune. Their existence is recorded in Hawai'ian oral history and also by actual relics of their culture discovered here. They were not a Polynesian race, and were very small in stature, most likely because of long being isolated on the islands. They told of the tall, "white" raced, hairy people who were on the islands when the Menehune first arrived, but no hard evidence of that people's existence has yet been found. So, we can say for sure that Hawai'ian traditional history and science document the Menehune, but not whether they were the first people here.
What is also clear is that the Menehune claimed to have dominated the people before them, and the Polynesians dominated the Menehune, and the Tahitians did likewise, and then the Europeans and Americans did the same. This land has no "first people" left; only those who at some point took the land by force (or threat of force).
