Their original line-up was Keith Relf on vocals and harmonica, Chris Dreja on rhythm guitar, Top Topham on lead guitar, Paul Samwell-Smith on bass, and Jim McCarty on drums. Topham left before they became famous and was replaced by Eric Clapton. Eventually, Clapton left and was replaced by Jeff Beck. Eventually, Samwell-Smith left and Jimmy Page took over for him. After Jeff Beck left, Chris Dreja was moved from rhythm guitar to bass and Page was promoted from bass to lead guitar and the band became a four part instead of five part band.
