Orville and Wilbur Wright.
Its pretty self explanatory... Ohioans!
In December 1903 the Wright Brothers made the best manned flight which was controlled and sustained (i.e. not controlled falling or gliding).
The first powered aircraft to achieve controlled sustained flight was the Wright Flyer made by the wright brothers.
It was the first powered airplane to achieve sustained flight--as opposed to lifting off the ground and immediately landing, it flew for nine seconds on its first sustained flight. Nine seconds is nothing in 2009, but in 1903 when it had never been done before, it was amazing.
Hezârfen Ahmed Çelebi was a legendary Ottoman of 17th-century Istanbul, purported to have achieved sustained unpowered flight. See attached link.

the wright brothers I'm sorry but that is not correct. The Wright FlyerI had one pilot and that was Orville Wright who took the Flyer for a 12-second, sustained flight on December 17, 1903. This was the first successful, powered, piloted flight in history.
It was the first ever powered heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled and sustained flight with a pilot aboard.
Wilbur and Orville Wright invented the first airplane capable of heavier-than-air sustained flight. The first flight was on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
it effected the world by the innovation of sustained powered fight, controlled!
Sustained flight is the ability of an aircraft to remain in the air for an extended period without losing altitude. It requires a balance between lift, thrust, weight, and drag to keep the aircraft airborne. Achieving sustained flight is essential for aircraft to travel long distances efficiently.
